2000 honda accord lx timing belt question?

so I know that it is recommend that I get it changed every 80,000 miles or so and I know that it is recommended to change the water pump at the same time. my question is if there is a way to just check if the timing belt needs to be changed or not and how much it would cost to replace just the timing belt. if you know how much it would cost to replace both the water pump and timing belt together than that would also be appreciated but basically I am trying to get the most done for the cheapest price.2000 honda accord lx timing belt question? This depends exclusively on where you live, the price in California is different from say here in NY.

Timing belts go for around 65.00 labor 100.00 per hour, the water pump can be anywhere from 95.00-150 and 100.00 per hr

u HAVE TO change the pump when u change the belt.....the pump runs off the timing belt so if u don't change it the wear pattern changes and causes the pump to fail rather quickly causing the timing belt to fail as well causing MAJOR engine damage...

as for the belt ....u don't risk blowing the motor by just %26quot;checking%26quot; it......replace it .....

as for prices of the parts autozone.com....advanceautoparts.com....鈥?any other online parts store will give u estimate on parts prices........

as for labor the cost to replace both is within 10 bucks of just replacing the belt since u have to remove belt to change pump anyway...and after belt is of its only 2-3 more minutes to remove pump....

There is no way to check the timing belt without doing everything you would basicly do to just replace it in the first place. It is best to follow Honda's recommendations and just replace the timing belt. The whole job including the water pump should not cost more than $300-400. The reason that it is recommended to replace the water pump at the same time is that you have to remove the water pump in order to get to the timing belt cover and if you don't replace it at the same time and it later fails the labor costs to replace the water pump are about the same as the timing belt. So its better to just do a little preventative maintenance and just replace the pump while you are doing the belt. Water pumps are cheap but labor is expensive.... I have a 94 civic with over 227k miles and I have replaced the timing belt/ water pump every 60k miles as recommended without any problems. If you neglect your timing belt and it breaks it will destroy your engine. Take care of your Honda and it will literally last forever !!! One last recommendation do not take your car to the dealer for the work they will way overcharge you.. I have a local mechanic who specializes in Hondas and he does mine for $200 plus parts .. So long story short you can get it done right and at a good price if you find a good local shop. The dealer would charge you over 600-800 for the job.
