What puts "stress" on a timing belt.?

I have a Manual 1988 Ford Ranger, and I have to change the timing belt on it. Yet i do not have the money to put up for it right now, so until I save up the money I was told to %26quot;go easy on it%26quot; now i love my truck I do all the maintenance for it and treat it very well. Yet the timing belt is a more advanced maintenance, thus i do not know much about it. Now my question is how can I %26quot;go easy on it%26quot;. what put the stress on it?

Starting from a complete stop?

Running High RPMs?

Down shifting to slow down rather than braking?

Higher speeds?

First gear?

Second gear?

Third? Fourth? Fifth?

When I push in the clutch?

Switching gears?

Putting it in nuetral after leaving 4th gear because I am comming to a red light to stop?

ANYTHING WILL HELP THANK YOU VERY MUCH.What puts %26quot;stress%26quot; on a timing belt.?don't let the other parts bully it so much, and tell the engine to stop screaming at it.

the timing belt connects the crankshaft to the camshaft(s), which in turn controls the opening and closing of the engine's valves, and also sometimes operates the oil and water pumps. So i would say high speeds, fast acceleration, high rpm and just being %26quot;fast%26quot; in general with the truck would be stressful for the belt.

changing gears (up or down), pushing the clutch and starting from a stop shouldnt affect it unless you do so violently.

My experence is going too fast too quick. Back out of it, save gas, and wear and tear.

Time and Mileage.

As soon as you start the engine its stress- nothing you can do with driving habits/conditions will help, if its time to go, it'll go!

Sorry but Good Luck!
The timing belt is just wrapped around a bunch of pulleys which allows the rotation of the engine's crankshaft to spin pulleys attached to other systems. I would think that the only way to stress the belt while driving is by hard acceleration or high revs.
Age and mileage. They won't wear faster or slower from driving habits. They're not like brakes or clutches. They just travel around the pulleys like the serpentine belt.
You have to reverse the quadruple clutch axel rod over to the bi-zanitine pletheral knocking cap. That will relive tension on the timing belt.....
