Well I was wondering if it was easy changing timing belts on a 1995 Lexus LS400. I have 125,000, and I think it is time to change them. If it is too hard how much do you think a mechanic would charge me.I need some info on timing belts??timing belt and timing belt tensioner with water pump and coolant flush about 1,000.00 with labor less tax.I need some info on timing belts??It is a bloody difficult job. That V8 block is so big that it leaves no room to work on. It would take 4 - 5 hour job, and cost of belt, water pump. oil seals, and belt would run you $150. labor should be another $600 or so.I need some info on timing belts??You're crazy if you try this without a full blown repair facility full of equipment. I'm sure you can get a quote for this over the phone. They'll probably suggest, and you should, change your waterpump at the same time.125,000 miles sounds like stretching it for a timing belt. You don't want to put this off. I put off my 60,000 mile Civic belt until 110,000 miles. It broke and cost me $1500 in 1993 dollars to fix the engine.
The dealer's Service Dept will tell you how many miles your make and model car can go before it's time to change it. That gives you plenty of time to save up for it. $600 for a 60,000-mile belt job is only $150/year for four years, or $3/week. You just need to consider it a necessary cost of owning the vehicle.
Please do it promptly.
Best regards,
Mike
