How much does it cost to replace a new timing chains?

I drive a 2000 celica gt-s 6 speed manual and I found out that my car doesnt have a timing belt but a timing chain. Nothing seems to be wrong with my timing chain though i can't really see it cus it's inside my engine but my car is over 100 k miles already and i was wondering how much it will cost me to changed it just in case. I know its not cheap. How much does it cost to replace a new timing chains?had you bought a Chevy or a ford $20-$30..

ha ha you bought a Toyota ...ha ha good one
How much does it cost to replace a new timing chains?
Good news is timing chains do not need to be replaced, they just have to be re tightened. This is much cheaper than having a timing belt replaced, but I am not sure how much it would cost for foriegn cars. probably a couple hundred, go to a toyota dealership to do it.

Unless it is make noise you shouldn't have to do anything to it. if I'm not mistaken i believe Toyota uses a hydraulic tensioner which doesn't need any adjustment.

  • Is it bad that I haven't had my timing belt changed yet on my '03 Mazda Protege at 128,000 miles?

I can't afford to for another month and a half. How much is itIs it bad that I haven't had my timing belt changed yet on my '03 Mazda Protege at 128,000 miles? As far as I know Mazda never made an interference engine so if your timing belt breaks, all you will need to do is get the car towed and fixed. There should be no extra damage to the valve train.
Is it bad that I haven't had my timing belt changed yet on my '03 Mazda Protege at 128,000 miles?
It's only bad if it breaks. If the timing belt breaks, it will cause other significant damage to your engine.

An independent repair shop should do it for around $313.00. A dealership should be around $409.00.

Hope this helps and good luck

If it has never been changed, you are living on borrowed time. If it is an interference engine, which most are, it will do plenty of damage should it break. For an accurate price you need to call a few shops near you. I would suspect a few hundred $.
you need to do it as soon as you can. This belt allows the crankshaft to drive the camshaft, which in turn opens and closes the valves. Without this belt, the engine can't run. If a timing belt breaks or jumps a notch in an interference engine, the valves may open at the wrong time and then be struck by the pistons. The result will be many hundreds of dollars in damage to your engine.A broken timing belt will leave you stranded 鈥?which is inconvenient 鈥?but won't do any permanent damage. Based on the engine type of your car, price can range anywhere from 250-1000 dollars
Look at your owner's manual. It should tell you when to do what. And Frankie's right. If it breaks, your pistons could hit your valves, then you're looking at lots of money. My mechanic friend has a saying %26quot;You can pay me now or pay me later, but you will pay me%26quot; So keep him (amd yourself) happy bay a little now, instead of alot later
Yes, it could fail and cause serious engine damage at any time. However, if you have a few tools, it is quite easy to do yourself.

At Autozone, the Gatorback part # is 40228 and it goes for $40.99.

The Chilton's or Haynes motor manual for your car is about $24.99.

You will need a set of sockets and/or wrenches. You will need a couple of sockets, no questions. One to turn the crank and the other to turn the cam. You will also need a jack. And about 2 hours. The motor manual will describe in words and pictures exactly what you need to do to change the belt.

Doing it yourself will save you about $200.

    2004 sti timing belt?

i have a 2004 sti with 47k miles on it and im wondering when im suppose to change the timing belt!? second, if i take it to a dealer, how much would they charge?2004 sti timing belt?I know the service interval for the belt on my 2000 outback is 104,000 miles. The tensioner and water pump are easy to get at when the timing covers are off, but very well may still be ok. I would look in the owners manual and go with that. Or call your local dealer.
    2004 sti timing belt?
I believe that would be every 62,500 miles your timing belt should be changed by subaru standards. You should get the tensioner and water pump done at the same time too, most dealers would probably charge around $500 for just belt, maybe $700-800 all together for water pump and tensioner.

I took my truck in for a diagnostic that was to be $70, they called me&said that it might be the timing belt?

I told them that I have had the truck for 8 years %26amp; NEVER changed the timing belt because I thought that it had a chain instead of a belt. I asked them how much it would be to replace it - I never asked them to replace it.I did sasy %26quot;Do not take anything apart yet, I made that very clear%26quot; They said that it would cost a total of $150 to see if it was the belt - I said well it probably is because it has NEVER been changed in 8 years, so just give me a quote on how much it is for the belt to be replace before you do anything else, because I had just lost my job.Well they took the thing apart %26amp; said ooops something else is wrong, not the belt.Well nothing was fixed, they did MORE then I said that they could %26amp; now they want $265! I told them to stop at $70 %26amp; they didn't, what do I do now? I went %26amp; picked up my truck 3 nights ago and they just noticed today that it was gone.I say $70 they say $265 what can I do?!They say I have 3 days to pay or else,I said or else what? They said just or elseI took my truck in for a diagnostic that was to be $70, they called me%26amp;said that it might be the timing belt?Turn this around on them; report them to the Better Business Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce.

If there is a %26quot;watchdog%26quot; agency in your state, report it to them as well, and file a complaint.

In California, the agency is the Department of Consumer Affairs, Bureau of Automotive Repair. It is administered by the State's Attorney General's office

For future reference, when dealing with a repair facility, if they don't offer a WRITTEN estimate, one that you either sign or initial, drive away and don't leave your car.

In all states, the shop has a right of %26quot;Mechanic's Lien%26quot;, and it can be levied against you so that the car cannot be sold, or in some states, even licensed or insured.

I took my truck in for a diagnostic that was to be $70, they called me%26amp;said that it might be the timing belt?
I am not sure about what was writeen here, or signed, or anything like that. but I BELIEVE that if you didnt sign anything, thy cannot come after you for the money. How can they proove that you said its ok for them to do all that stuff, especially if you didnt. I think there just calling your bluff, good luck.
I took my truck in for a diagnostic that was to be $70, they called me%26amp;said that it might be the timing belt?
I would let them know that I never agreed to fixing it and if they have documentation indicating that I agreed to all these repairs with my signature, then I would like to see it. Other than that you will be happy to pay the $70 that is owed by you. Regarding your address, they can look it up by the registered owners address by the vin %26amp; license plate info they probably took down for their computer records. I'm suprised they didn't get your signature for the repairs before they completed them. I'm sure they won't do that again. ;)
Here's the deal with the timing belt: if there's a problem with it, your truck will either not run, or run so badly that you couldn't drive it anywhere. A timing belt will either break or slip a tooth and it will go bad immediately, not get gradually worse over time. If your truck didn't go from just fine one minute to barely running the next, it's not the timing belt and they should know that.

If your truck is still not running right, you need to take it to a better mechanic. My expertise is maintenance, not law, but I think you owe them no more than the $150 you agreed to for further diagnostic work. If it were me I'd offer them $100 and tell them they're lucky to get that because I still need the money to pay a REAL mechanic, you know, the kind who FIXES things.
I can't think of any truck with a timing belt.If you got your vehicle, then just stay away from those people. If by chance they find the truck and try ANYTHING,you just go ahead and call the police. The so-called service they did cannot be charged to you without a signed work order.Stand firm.
You can bet they have your license plate number. Call the better business bureau. Thenyou'll be one step ahead.
Pay the damn bill, you should have never taken the truck without talking to them anyway. besides, what does 70 dollars pay for anyway? What ever they did, if its fixed, just honer it and put it down to experience, there is no way your belt or chain would cause problems, its either working or not, so most likely in this case, they are telling the truth, and that not like me to say that. Just pay them and move on. Serious, the belt or chain, if it goes, it goes, and you would know about it, if the truck worked when you took it too them, it where definitely not the belt. Edx

2002 Hyundai Accent Timing & Serpentine Belt Replacement Costs?

I have a 2002 Hyundai Accent 2 door and need to get the timing belt and serpentine belts replaced. Does anyone know how much this might cost? I know timing belt changes start out at at least $320, but I'm curious to know the total cost plus the serpentine belt. Thanks.2002 Hyundai Accent Timing %26amp; Serpentine Belt Replacement Costs? You shouldn't have both. The 02 Accent should have a Timing Belt. But if I remember correctly, the water pump should be replaced at the same time.

I had a 00 Elantra. The Estimates I received ranged from $415 to $700. So shop around. Especially these days, don't just take the 1st estimate you receive, people will compete for your business. And it's a common enough part that you should be able to get an honest estimate.
2002 Hyundai Accent Timing %26amp; Serpentine Belt Replacement Costs?
Hmmm, timing and serpentine should be the same thing. Perhaps not, but on most cars it is. 3 to 4 hundred sounds about right, though. Question is, did it break while you were driving it? If you were, oh dear!
2002 Hyundai Accent Timing %26amp; Serpentine Belt Replacement Costs?
i would say about 400 to 450.00 with tax serpentine belt on the same side as timingcover that has to come off anyways to access and finish the ttimingbelt job, now timing belt tensioner's and water pump may be extra if needed. i worked in a shop as a service adviser for 8 years.

  • 2000 Daewoo Lanos timing belt?

I just booked my car to be serviced next week and the mechanic asked if my timing belt had been changed. When i said it hadn't he told me that he will look at it and see if it needs to be changed. I know absolutely nothing about cars and want to sound informed and I don't want to get rip off. My car has done 99,000km.

    i was just wondering:

    what is a timing belt?

    how much roughly are they?

are there any signs that it needs to be changed?

thanks2000 Daewoo Lanos timing belt? What is a timing belt? It is a ribbed belt powered by the engine's crank shaft to turn the camshaft(s) exactly half the speed of the crankshaft (using gear reduction of course).

How much are they? The timing belt kit is relatively inexpensive costing around $120 (U.S.). The installation however, requires at least a few hours which can be costly

When to change? Many manufacturers strongly urge (read: voided warranty) you to change your timing belt anywhere from 60-90k miles. Your specific manufacturer will tell you this in the owners guide.

When looking at a timing belt, obvious signs of need for replacement include cracks, missing teeth, heavy wear marks and excessive slack. If your timing belt breaks while the engine is running you run a very high probability of destroying the engine.
    2000 Daewoo Lanos timing belt?
I don't want to speak jargin so simply yes you need to have it checked. especially if you haven't changed it the whole time you have had the car. No your not getting ripped off. your mechanic is possibly saving you alot of money in the long run. The engine in your car is whats called an INTERFERENCE engine, Im not going to get in depth but that basically means that if the timing belt breaks your engine for all practical pricing purposes is trashed and it's time to buy a new car. And insurance wont cover that. Invest the money in a good quality belt and get it done because I doubt you can afford not to.
