Micra 1.0s 60k timing belt change?

I'm looking at buying a Y reg 01 Nissan Micra 1.0s. The price is pretty cheap at 拢1500 but when i took the car out for a drive i had a look through the Manufacturers manual and saw that they recommend that you change the timing belt at 60k miles and the car has done 61k. and not had it done so far. Is that right?

And also, how much is this going to cost if it definately needs doing?

Or am i buying a potential nightmare?!

Thanks!Micra 1.0s 60k timing belt change? These engines have a chain not a belt and should be good for 80k so if in any doubt get a good garage to take a look.

Micra 1.0s 60k timing belt change?
I owned a micra and have had several Nissans. The engines are good and sound but you should get the cam belt changed when it is due. If you do not change it and it fails it will ruin the engine. I would say they are great secondhand cars as long as the bodywork is not rusty you will have a sound vehicle. The cost varies from car to car but I would say at least 拢120. If I were you I would use that fact to negotiate the price down a bit.
That is a regular service issue. Changing the belt is much cheaper than repairing the valves and or the pistons when the belt fails. Get an estimate from a local repair shop and tell the seller you want the price reduced by that amount as the belt is a potential problem.
Its normal to change a belt at that milage not a hard job on them about 拢160 including belt
